Periyar National Park पेरियार राष्ट्रीय उद्यान

पेरियार राष्ट्रीय उद्यान केरल के इडुक्की और पथानामथिट्टा जिले में एक संरक्षित क्षेत्र है।यहाँ के प्रमुख वन्य जीव हाथी और बाघ हैं। संरक्षित क्षेत्र 357 वर्ग मील क्षेत्र में फैला है। इस उद्यान को  पेरियार वन्यजीव अभयारण्य या थेककडी कहा जाता है। 2008 में यहाँ 24 बंगाल टाइगर की गिनती की गयी थी। यहाँ सांभर, जंगली सुअर, भारतीय विशाल गिलहरी, त्रावणकोर उड़ान गिलहरी, जंगली बिल्ली, नीलगिरि तहर, नीलगिरि लंगूर आदि जानवर भी रहते हैं । लगभग 265 प्रजातियों के प्रवासी पक्षी भी यहाँ आते हैं। जिनमें मालाबार ग्रे हॉर्नबिल, नीलगिरी लकड़ी कबूतर, ब्लू पंखों वाला तोता आदि प्रमुख हैं।

पेरियार राष्ट्रीय उद्यान एक कृत्रिम झील के किनारे स्थित है,जिसे पेरियार झील भी कहते हैं। झील के आसपास  हाथियों के झुंड देखे जा सकते हैं। यह दृश्य पर्यटकों के लिए यह बहुत आकर्षक होता है। विविध वन्यजीवों की उपस्थिति के कारण पेरियार वन्यजीव अभयारण्य दुनिया भर के यात्रियों को आकर्षित करता है। पेरियार वन्यजीव अभयारण्य की आकर्षक व उपयोगी वनस्पति व वन्यजीवन, वन्यजीव उत्साहियों और प्रकृति प्रेमियों को एक अनूठा और रोमांचक अनुभव प्रदान करते है।
